Production of Armour Rock
Armour rock is generally selected as the plus 1.0 tonne material
using hydraulic excavator equipped with hydraulic grab.
Depending on client's requirement, armour rock is selected from
the blasted rock face into the grades specified. Selected
material is loaded into heavy duty dump trucks of 50 - 85 tonne
capacities using hydraulic grabs or large capacity wheel loaders
and transported to the stockpiles.
For production of small armour (100 Kg to 1,000 Kg), larger size
rock is broken into smaller sizes using heavy duty excavator
mounted hydraulic hammers. Selection as per the grading
requirement is done using smaller capacity grabs. |
|
Production of Core Materials
Core material, which is normally minus 1.0 tonne material
remaining after selection of armour rock is loaded into dump
trucks using wheel loaders, and transported to the heavy duty
screening plant which has a capacity 500 tonnes/ hour. The
screen plates are set to screen out the fines to obtain the
required grading. |
|
Production of Crushed Aggregates
Typical crusher feed consist of 0 to 400 Kg material from quarry
face or hill dump, loaded by wheel loaders and transported by
dump trucks. The material is dumped into the primary crusher
hopper. Undersize from a grizzly passes over a vibrating screen
to remove the fines. Primary crushed material passes through a
system of surge hoppers, secondary and tertiary impact crushers,
VSI crushers, sizing screens and conveyors to produce crushed
aggregates of various gradings. Products from the crushers are
either loaded directly into client's trucks or transported to
respective stockpiles.
The crushing plants of Stevin Rock are designed to produce
crushed rock/ crushed aggregates of any grade of assured quality
with minimum modifications.

Dispatch by Barge (Khor_Khwair)
Material from the stockpiles is loaded into 35 tonne dump trucks
by grab or wheel loader depending on the material type and
passes over the weighbridge to the harbour. Trucks enter the
barge over a static ramp and are directly unloaded onto the
barge. Stacking of material on the barge is done by grab or
wheel loader.

|
Dispatch by Ship (Khor_Khwair)
Larger quantities of aggregates/rock materials are dispatched by
ships from the Mina Saqr Port in Ras AI Khaimah, which is near
to the Stevin Rock quarry. Material from the stockpiles is
transported by 50-60 tonne dump trucks to the port and dumped at
the crane feed locations from where it is loaded by port
cranes/ship cranes into the ship. The material quantities are
determined by conducting draught surveys of the ship. Ships of
up to 58,000 tonnes capacity are loaded in Mina Saqr in this
manner. |

Quarry Operation – Gabbro Q4 |
|
Mining Method
The mining method at Gabbro uses the traditional open pit
practice of drilling and blasting of a planned rock bench,
loading of material with a backhoe excavator, and hauling to the
primary crusher utilising Caterpillar 60 tonne off highway dump
trucks.
Drilling and Blasting
Drilling is done with heavy duty down the hole/ top hammer drill
rigs to a preset pattern. The blasting parameters are designed
to suit the rock conditions and gradation requirements. The
holes are charged with slurry explosives as base charge and ANFO
as column charge. Initiation is by using EXCEL system for
increased safety and flexibility.

Production of Crushed Aggregates, Core and
Armour
Through a state of the art controlled crushing and screening
plant installed and commissioned during year 2000 as a turnkey
project by Messrs Svedala Systems of Sweden.
A full range of concrete/asphalt aggregates are produced.
In addition to the above a substantial quantity of Core and
Armour is also produced. |
|
Material Dispatch
Depending on the client’s requirement, rock materials produced at
Gabbro are dispatched by client’s trucks or delivered.
Dispatch by Truck
Trucks are tared at the weighbridge, given a load out ticket
specifying material requirement and directed to the correct
stockpile or product bin. Loaded trucks are passed back through
the weighbridge to attain accurate load weights.
Quarry Supervision
The entire production and dispatch process at Gabbro is
controlled and supervised by an experienced team of Quarry
Personnel functioning under the Operations Manager. |
